Destination Modern Art Animation

Today I felt like watching something that might inspire kids. I don't know why, I just felt like it! Anyway, I found this little educational site that helps children to discover different types of art and learn some interesting facts about the piece and the artist. Destination Modern Art is an interactive Flash animation that allows children to explore on their own by being able to click on art that interests them. The creator uses facts about the artist and interactive activities to help the child be interested in the particular artwork.
In the beginning, there is a little alien who decided to see what modern art is like on planet Earth. This cartoon and its surroundings are very brightly colored and cheerful. By using the colors red, yellow, bright green, etc. the atmosphere is much more intriguing allowing the child to feel excited to learn without them knowing.
Once arriving at the museums there are actual pictures of the pieces of art, not just an imitation, so that the child can see what it really looks like. Anything clickable will inform the child about a piece of work or the art gallery itself. It also inspires children to create pieces of art themselves. For example, one piece was a self-portrait and so the spokeswoman encouraged the viewer to create their own self-portrait. Also, the spokeswoman would ask them to write a poem using words that were given about a piece of art.
The little alien was drawn as if it were a picture by a younger person. It was cute yet cool as I would think some of the children would think. The animation was geared towards both boys and girls and was for all different ages. I even learned some things about some of the artwork and its artists! I think that this little educational Flash interactive animation is an awesome learning experience for those kids who are interested in art; even the bigger kids too! Like me!
